The Importance of Cervical Cancer Screening
The Importance of Cervical Cancer Screening
Cervical cancer is a type of cancer that requires special attention for women.
There are almost no subjective symptoms in the early stages;
however, by undergoing regular screenings, abnormalities can be detected and treated early.
This allows for intervention before progression to cancer, thereby reducing the physical burden.
Causes of Cervical Cancer
The primary cause of cervical cancer is
persistent infection with a virus called Human Papillomavirus (HPV).
In particular, HPV types 16 and 18 are known to increase the risk of cervical cancer.
While this virus is generally spread through sexual activity,
infection does not immediately lead to cancer.
It is important to detect abnormalities early through regular screenings and take appropriate measures.
Types of Cervical Cancer Screening
At our clinic, we offer cervical cancer screening through the following two methods:
[G112] Conventional Pap Test
This method involves collecting cells from the cervix and examining them under a microscope for abnormalities.
The sensitivity of this test is estimated at 50-75%, b
ut regular screening increases the likelihood of early detection.
Fee: 2,000 THB
Results: Provided within 3-5 days.
[GH245] ThinPrep Pap Test + HPV DNA Test
This is a liquid-based cytology test, which provides more accurate results than a conventional Pap test.
Furthermore, by combining it with an HPV DNA test,
high-risk HPV infections that cause cervical cancer can be identified simultaneously.
This allows for a more accurate assessment of cancer risk.
Fee: 3,400 THB
Results: Within 7 days
Target Audience and Recommended Frequency
Regular cervical cancer screening is recommended for the following individuals:
- Women aged 25 and older: It is recommended to undergo an HPV DNA test or a Pap test + HPV DNA test (co-testing) every 5 years, or a Pap test every 3 years.
- Women aged 65 and older: Screening may be discontinued if there have been no abnormalities in the past 10 years.
- High-risk women (e.g., HIV-positive, immunocompromised): Annual screenings are recommended.
Combined Use of HPV Vaccine and Regular Screening
The HPV vaccineis an effective means of preventing cervical cancer,
but the vaccine alone cannot prevent all risks.
By undergoing regular cervical cancer screenings in addition to vaccination, the preventive effect can be further enhanced.

Pre-Examination Preparation
Please observe the following points before undergoing a Pap test:
- Delicate Zone Care:
Gently wash the vulva; please avoid vaginal douching or the use of powders. - Appropriate Timing:
Please avoid the menstrual period and undergo the test at least 7 days after it ends. - Regarding Hair Removal:
Shaving is not necessary. The examination proceeds more smoothly in a natural state. - Refrain from Sexual Intercourse:
Avoiding sexual intercourse for 48 hours prior to the test helps ensure accurate results.
