Allergy test measures the amount of the IgE (Immunoglobulin E) antibodies in your blood. When an allergen enters the body, the IgE antibodies bind to mast cells. It triggers the immune system to release powerful chemicals like histamines. Histamine causes inflammation and irritation of the skin and mucous production. Hence, the higher your IgE level to a substance, the more likely you would have an allergy to it.
However, a high blood IgE level to an allergen doesn’t necessarily indicate that you are allergic, it doesn’t mean you have to stop eating that food. On the other hand, a negative blood IgE level doesn’t necessarily indicate that you are not. If you experience an allergic reaction, you should stop eating it.
The allergic reaction depends on many factors that differ according to person. Therefore, it is important to note that the IgE test is only an indicator that determines the likelihood of having a certain allergy.
Please don’t hesitate to ask our staff should you require further information.
Testing for Allergen:
On the following table, similar food products are sometimes divided into different categories. This can be due to the difference in specific contents in the food or to observe whether the patient has an allergy to both raw and cooked forms of the food. For example, egg yolk and egg white are not in the same category.
We would thoroughly examine the food products that the patient frequently consumes. Thus, there is a possibility that we would determine the specific substances inside the food product that is causing the allergy.
