To test for allergy, we examine the IgE (Immunoglobulin E) antibodies inside the patient’s blood. When an allergen enters our body, the IgE would bind with the mast cells in our body and induce the mast cells to produce histamine. Histamine is a substance that causes inflammation on the skin or mucosal membrane. Hence, if the IgE count is high when a substance is tested, the patient is likely to be allergic to that specific substance.
However, a patient may not experience allergic symptoms despite receiving a positive result in the IgE test. For example, a patient may not have experienced allergic symptoms for eating egg yolks. If this is the case, they can still continue to eat egg yolks. On the other hand, if the patient obtains a negative result for the IgE test, this would not imply that they are 100% safe to that substance. Hence, they may need to suppress eating egg yolks.
Allergies can occur depending on many reasons. Whether the patient is allergic to certain foods or not will vary a lot between patients. Therefore, it is important to note that the IgE test is only an indicator that determines the likelihood of having a certain allergy.

Testing for Allergen:
On the following table, similar food products are sometimes divided into different categories. This can be due to the difference in specific contents in the food or to observe whether the patient has an allergy to both raw and cooked forms of the food. For example, egg yolk and egg white are not in the same category.
We would thoroughly examine the food products that the patient frequently consumes. Thus, there is a possibility that we would determine the specific substances inside the food product that is causing the allergy.
